The Bowley Review:
I’ve never seen any other the previous Rambo movies, but I found it easy to watch this. If you know anything about the franchise, you know that there is a lot of fighting and a lot of bloodshed, and you shouldn’t treat this one any different. It was a good movie, but not the best choice when going to the theaters. Sylvester Stallone co-wrote and directed this film. He wanted to put an emphasis on the horrors of war and the seriousness of the situation in Burma.
If you’re the kind of movie lover who enjoys watching war or gun fights in general, this is for you. Out of the Rambo series, this is said to have the record for most casualties. I couldn’t say whether you get the same feeling watching this as you did with the three previous films, but most online reviews would say so.
What this movie lacks is a good story. Besides going into Burma and kicking some ass, there isn’t much else. The missionaries went into Burma to change things for the better, and in the end, it’s still the same situation. Stallone didn’t seem to write much background information on the characters. The majority of the movie is war.
Because this movie can still be entertaining, I give it a C+. I’m not highly recommending it, but if you were to go out and watch it, I wouldn’t necessarily tell you not to. The franchise has a huge fan base for a reason. I might even consider watching “First Blood” to see what the fuss is about.
Grade: C+
