Plot Synopsis:
Brad Hayes (Ryan Reynolds) is a single father in the middle of a divorce who is convinced by his 10 year old daughter Maya (Abigail Breslin) to tell her the story of how he met her mother.

The Bowley Review:
I think the whole plot of the movie is interesting. Before you even start to watch, you’ll probably try guessing which of the 3 women is her mom. Both the lead characters know who the mother is, but Maya doesn’t know which woman it is in the story, and we don’t know which woman it is at all.

Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder, Amityville Horror, Smokin’ Aces) has done a good job playing his character. Ryan Reynolds looks way too young to be a father, even though he’s 31 years old. I’ve always enjoyed Ryan Reynolds’ movies, so this was good to me. Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Signs, No Reservations) was my least favorite character. I felt like she complains and demands way too much. I guess that’s what little girls are like at her age, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy hearing it. Also, I think the older she gets, the weirder she looks. I don’t know if that’s just me or not though. Together, I don’t see these two working well together. The supporting cast of Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers Hot Rod), Elizabeth Banks (The 40-Year-Old Virgin), and Rachel Weisz (The Mummy series, Runaway Jury, Constantine), have played their roles right. They play similar roles in this and their other works, which is not a bad thing nor a good thing.

Sometimes, this movie can keep a slow pace and it’s not too hard to lose interest. The ending was interesting, but nothing to be surprised about. A good mix of romance, comedy, and drama.

Overall, this is a good movie. I recommend this to fans of romantic comedies, Ryan Reynolds, or even Abigail Breslin. If you decide you don’t want to see this, but you want to see something with Ryan Reynolds, I understand. Maybe you should wait to see him as Deadpool in next years “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. Also, while doing research on this movie, I found out that through Elizabeth Banks’ filmography that they are remaking “A Tale of Two Sisters”, which is a Korean horror film made in 2003. I really liked that movie, so I hope they don’t mess it up.
